No one was spared. Higher anxiety was reported across age groups, races, ethnicities, and genders. But there are some of us that are more worried than others.  People of color were 11 points more anxious than white respondents. Out of all the age groups, baby boomers expressed the most anxiety, showing a seven-point jump in anxiety from last year.So what are we so anxious about this year? Everything, it turns out. American said they were more anxious this year about their h ealth, keeping themselves safe, keeping their families safe, bills, the impact of politics on their life, and their relationships with their families, friends, and coworkers.Paying the bills is the top worryAlthough Americans reported higher anxiety across all areas surveyed, they were the most worried about their wallet with the highest increases in anxiety coming from respondents worrying how they were going to pay their bills. Almost three in four young adults ages 18 to 34 said they were extremely anxious about how they were going to pay off bills.Anxiety can have far-reaching consequences on our professional and personal relationships. When we are anxious, we are not fully present, unable to concentrate as we pour our energy into our worries.“This poll shows U.S. adults are increasingly anxious particularly about health, safety, and finances. Some people are more open to sharing details than others. In fact, many believe that a significant other’s job title, a child’s acceptance into an elite university, an upcoming move to a new area of town, or even a simple weekend recap is information best kept to themselves. But I disagree- and I can make a strong case as to why getting to know your co-workers on a personal level is good for your career. 1. It Reduces Stress Of the nine different teams that I’ve worked on over the course of my professional career, I’ve been open about my life outside the office with about half of them. My reason for evasion was consistent; the decision was always rooted in fear: fear of judgment or rejection leading to some unforeseen negative consequence. I wondered if my teammates who were married with kids and living in the suburbs for the great school districts would relate to the new guy who moved in from out of town and lived in an apartment in the city with his girlfriend. If they didn’t relate, would I be the team outcast? It may sound silly, but it was stressful stuff! In hindsight, I can see that I was overthinking it. I didn’t need to reveal every detail about my relationship with my partner- our ups and downs and everything in between- but I also didn’t need to dwell in a place of secrecy. I think I’d have experienced a lot less stress and anxiety on a daily basis if I’d allowed myself some leeway, if I’d been comfortable coming in after a tough weekend dealing with my noisy neighbors- rather than just stewing in my own bad mood and pretending like everything in my life was always great. 2. It’s Revealing We’re all so much bigger than our 9-to-5 identities, so acting otherwise ultimately feels inauthentic. The truth is, our hobbies and interests tell others a lot about us. Perhaps you thrive on weekends as a hostess who throws awesome get-togethers. Maybe you’re a little league umpire, or a marathon runner. Whatever it is that you do when you’re not working is a part of your character. When you can relate to your colleagues beyond spreadsheet data, status reports, and best hiring practices, you begin to see them as multi-dimensional, and this can help you work better as a team. Plus, it might be hard to see how your DIY house renovations could benefit your day job, but look a little more deeply, and you’ll see that the skills utilized in your recreational pursuits are often ones that you’ll call upon in some tangential way as you tackle assignments. For example, a person on your team who’s super passionate about photography may be an asset when the company decides it needs to revamp all of its promotional marketing materials. The more people know about you, the more likely they are to call upon you to help with a new initiative or project. 3. It Allows You to Leave With Support No one has their entire career mapped out in front of them: You could get laid off, fired, or decide to quit when you get passed over for a promotion. You could make a decision to find a new job when your boss leaves or when a particular co-worker becomes more than you can handle on a daily basis. The point is, there’s a lot of professional unknowns. But if you form real relationships with people throughout your career, you never know how they may help you down the line. Instead of feeling like you have to build your network from scratch, you’ll have one in place should you need to relocate for your spouse’s job or get laid off If you proactively keep others up-to-date with what’s going on in your life, who knows how they might be able to help you down the line when you’re making a career transition. Individuals who you connect with on an intimate level are the ones who’ll be more likely to serve as excellent job references, write LinkedIn recommendations for you, and enthusiastically introduce you to their contacts. If you’re ready to go beyond standard work talk, but aren’t sure how to do it (or don’t want to commit to a weekly happy hour) consider striking up conversation in the kitchen or connecting on social media. You don’t need to invite your entire team to your housewarming party or Facebook-friend every member of your department right away. Start off slow if this is unfamiliar territory for you. Its like the auto business during the 20s, when General Motors and Chrysler took over their sector. Solar energy systems can be used to provide heat or electricity. Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, which can provide electricity anywhere, are the worlds fastest-growing energy source, according to Brandon Leavitt, CEO of Solar Service in Niles IL. Solar thermal, which has been used for centuries, provides hot water and heat. Using the sun to heat water is a very practical solar application. In solar thermal systems, mechanical engineers work on pre-installation planning to determine the number of hot water panels. [The engineers] design and balance all the system components to optimize performance.All collection, exchange, storage, piping and other fluid handling components must be sized precisely. Small details, like properly locating a $20 sensor in the right place, determine whether or not the system will work properly, Leavitt discovered. The location for solar energy jobs is often counterintuitive, said Leavitt, who has a mechanical engineering background,Solar is not just for southern, sunny climates. Solar heating works best where its needed most: the farther north, the more valuable sunshine becomes. In Chicago, heat is needed for six to nine months a year. For year-round hot water, just four hours of sun can deliver a 24-hour supply of hot water.Thats why sizing and storage are so important. Of course, freeze protection is also an important consideration. To Masia, solar energy teems with mechanical problems awaiting solutions including: More foolproof, weatherproof electrical connections. Solar arrays are warrantied for 20 to 25 years and all components need to last that long. Quick, cheap screening systems to keep out rodents and birds. Better cooling systems for all components. Smoother approaches for incorporating solar panels directly into architectural elements. New ways to apply solar panels to vehicle roofs. Imagine the fuel savings of a refrigerated semi-trailer running its cooling system from a solar array, rather than burning diesel fuel. Companies outside the solar sector will also tackle these issues, predicts Masia, For instance, an automobile business might explore vehicular solar energy systems. Mechanical engineers should broaden their search, he suggested. This fast-evolving sector rewards ingenuity. One major installation cost is the tedious labor in bolting the racking systems. A market-share leader, Solar FlexRack, grew quickly by engineering a rack that two workers can unfold, onsite. Now, their competitors realize that clever mechanical engineering of the manufactured product is crucial for rapid deployment in the field, Masia explains, Some supplier will make a fortune putting solar panels onto a telescoping rack system that can be lifted from a flatbed truck onto a roof, unfolded, and bolted down by two workers in 15 minutes. Of those participants who reported setting spending limits, 78 percent said they are happy with how much their spouse spends, compared to 63 percent of people who don’t set those limits. Couples without spending limits are also twice as likely to wish that their spouse had spent more. And we all know that weird money vibes can create a general sense of discomfort around the holiday season as a whole. There are some compelling reasons that you should. You already tailor other things you write to a specific audience, (e.g., emails, term papers, brochures). Why should your resume be any different? Here are a few simple   tips on how to write a resume  and tailor it to a job description. A good place to start is by making a master list of your skills. But why make a master list if you’re just going to take keywords from the job listing? The list helps you identify what kinds of job listings to target. Also, it will help you prioritize the skill keywords you will take from the job listing. So, think back on all of the jobs you’ve had and the skills you’ve learned over the years. As you add them to your list, put the ones you feel strongest about at the top. By putting your strongest skills at the top, you can see how close you are to being the perfect candidate when you select different job listings. For example, when your strongest skills line up with the skills the recruiter emphasizes in the job listing, there’s a better chance you’ll get called in for an interview. If you’re worried about whether a skill is relevant, add it anyhow. It’s best to get it all on paper and save the cherry-picking for later. Carefully   read the job listing  and highlight any skills the employer mentions - these are keywords. When a hiring manager first looks at your resume, they will scan it for these keywords. And they will only   spend an average of six seconds  trying to find them. That means that you need to put the most important keywords at the top of your resume. Make other keywords eye-catching with embellishments like numbers and accomplishments. For example, let’s say one of the requirements in the job listing is “excellent customer service skills.” You’ve decided to add it to your experience section as a key responsibility from your last job. But don’t just write “ responsible for handling customer service .” Add some value: “ Spearheaded a customer service initiative that saved the company over $50,000 and resulted in a 10 percent decrease in returns. “   Now the recruiter knows   how  excellent you are at customer service - $50,000 worth! Here’s a tip:  If you’ve ever cut costs or increased revenue, add that information. If you’re not sure by how much, estimate. Just be sure that you can back up your estimation with proof. Try to find two to three other job listings similar to the one featuring the job you’re applying for. Read through them and mark the skills listed. If you find skills that are common across these listings, there’s a good chance they’re either mandatory or highly desirable for the job you’re targeting. Next, take a trip over to LinkedIn and look at other professionals’ profiles. What skills do they list? How are they similar? If you see a pattern, you’ve figured out which skills are most likely relevant keywords for your resume.
